GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate... We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault

On June 2, 2007... WFMY News 2 shared the story of a special benefit concert to honor a fallen officer

Winston-Salem police Sgt. Howard Plouff died on February 23, 2007, in the line of duty.

He was shot while working outside a nightclub to control crowds after a fight.

On June 2, some Winston-Salem/Forsyth County students hosted an acoustic concert to raise money for Plouff's family.

They performed at Southwest Elementary School, where Plouff's widow, Joyce, taught.

Joyce made a rare public appearance and spent a few minutes backstage with each musician -- thanking them for all their hard work.

It's unclear exactly how much they raised, but it all went to the Sgt. Howard Plouff Memorial Fund.
