GREENSBORO, N.C. — Last month WFMY News 2 turned 75! So to celebrate... We're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.
On Sept. 2, 2016, people in Burlington were talking about a disturbing discovery.
Police say $40,000 worth of heroin was just sitting in the road!
They found it at the corner of Heather Road and Eldermont Street.
Police believed the drug was laced with fentanyl -- a painkiller about 50 times stronger than morphine.
It's meant to give users a stronger high... but also makes the drug much more dangerous.
"You don't want kids coming across it, finding it, playing with it, even just touching it if it does have fentanyl in it. It's absorbed through the skin or can be inhaled, so it's really dangerous to be laying out in the road like that."
The person who found it didn't want to go on camera... But told WFMY they originally thought it was sugar.
