Vault Visit | In 1971, Greensboro had snow and the first baby of the year

Here's what the Triad was up to 53 years ago on Jan. 1, 1971.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate, we're opening the News 2 vault.

Every day this year, we'll show you a film clip or video from WFMY News 2's past!

And in honor of our first day, we're starting with two!

Both of these pieces of film in the video above come from 1971.

That year, folks in Greensboro started the new year with snow!

You can see some folks having a snowball fight before seeing some cars driving carefully down Wendover Avenue. Then what's a snow day without sledding and snowmen! It's great to see some things never change!

And what would a New Year's Day be without meeting the first baby born that year?

Christine Pritchett was the first baby born in Greensboro in 1971. And of course, her parents had to brave that snow to get to the hospital!

"We planned ahead a bit and had the chains put on the car when my wife started having pains and we didn't have any problem at all getting here," said Christine's father.

Christine, if you're still here and in the area, Happy 53rd birthday!

We'd love to hear from you!
