On July 28, 2020... An annual tradition for many gets canceled due to COVID-19.
Winston-Salem city officials announced they were canceling that year's Carolina Classic Fair.
They said chances of holding a fair under Phase 2 restrictions wouldn't be realistic.
Ben Rowe with the City of Winston-Salem said "In the final analysis we felt like if public safety is our highest priority and we want to make sure people are safe and healthy and we felt like it was the right thing to do."
Fairgrounds staff looked at ways to hold parts of the fair virtually, but it didn't make up for the $670,000 the city would lose.
The Carolina Classic is the second-largest fair in the state.
But you can mark your calendar for this year!
The Carolina Classic Fair is scheduled for Oct. 4-13 in Winston-Salem.
