GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.
February 10 1971 started with a shoot out between high point police and four teenage members of the local Black Panther Party.
It happened at a home used as a Black Panther Community Center on Hulda Street.
The center hosted free breakfast for children and free clothing giveaways.
Police say they were there to serve an eviction notice.
Officers used tear gas to enter the house and a shootout ensued.
One of the Black Panther members was injured and all four eventually surrendered.
The house was later demolished and the street re-named Taylor Avenue.
Fairview Family Resource Center now stands in its place.
