GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year... WFMY News 2 turns 75! So to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.
On July 22, 1971, folks in the Piedmont were getting ready to celebrate!
Alamance and Guilford counties celebrated 200 years in 1971.
In Alamance County, they celebrated with performances, parades and custom memorabilia.
In Guilford County... they wanted memorial tokens.
"We have too rich of a history in Guilford County, to waste it on things soon forgotten. we wanted last educational values... things that would be of service and interest to the people of Guilford County and their children in years to come."
Guilford County produced memorial tokens people could show and get deals at select stores.
The city also sold special prints of city landmarks as bicentennial souvenirs.
