75 years of community and creativity | Community Theatre of Greensboro celebrating 75 years | WFMY75

As WFMY News 2 celebrates 75 years, we're also celebrating businesses that have been open 75 years, like the Community Theatre of Greensboro.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — On Sunday, WFMY News 2 turns 75. Over the course of this week, we're also recognizing some of the local businesses that also opened their doors in 1949.  Today, we're talking about the Community Theatre of Greensboro (CTG), which has been a place of expression and entertainment for 75 years.

CTG's mission is to bring the community together. Executive Director Rozalynn Fulton said, "We give people the opportunity to do what they love to do. For 75 years, this organization has been a place where people have come and have found the joys of theater."

She says not only has it been a place for people to become better actors, but it also serves as an escape. Fulton said, "They have been able to go on our stage and smile and laugh and forget about all the other craziness that happens in the world."

Fulton says not everyone who comes through CTG's doors ends up on a big stage or big screen, but some do! She said, "They start off with our organization and then go off and they're on Broadway, they're on national tours or they're doctors or they're teachers, but it's a, a place where they can come be themselves."

She says the main thing she wants people to feel is a sense of belonging, "We have a home, this is our place, sing and dance. [...] Have a good time and know that they, when they are walking through our doors, they are family."

CTG'S tagline is "For the community. By the community." Even if you're not an actor, they have many ways to get involved and support their mission. You can learn more about the theatre and available opportunities by clicking here.

Upcoming performances include 'Guys and Dolls Junior', 'Rent', and their annual production of 'The Wizard of Oz." For information on dates and ticket prices, click here.

We'll be celebrating 75 a little more this week. We're catching up with some familiar faces and celebrating other businesses turning 75. Don't miss it!

Of course, this weekend we want you to celebrate 75 years with us! Sunday, August 18th, we'll be at Triad Park from 2:00pm - 4:00pm for a party! There will be food trucks, a performance from Eric and the Chill Tones, and, of course, members of the WFMY News 2 team! We hope to see you there.
