SUGAR MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Winter enthusiasts, rejoice! Sugar Mountain Resort officially opened its slopes early Friday morning for the 2024/2025 ski season, thanks to a significant overnight snowfall. A total of seven inches of fresh, natural snow blanketed the area, creating ideal conditions for skiing and snowboarding.
The resort announced the opening via social media early this morning, accompanied by a stunning photo of the snow-covered mountain. “Sugar Mountain Resort is OPEN for the '24/'25 season!” the post read. “With 7 inches of fresh, natural snow since yesterday, the resort is ready for you to ski and snowboard! ❄️ See you on the slopes! ⛷️🏂”
The fresh snowstorm marks a promising start to what many hope will be a snowy and action-packed winter season. This year's opening is also significant as the western North Carolina region continues to recover from Hurricane Helene, and hopes to attract tourism lost during the early fall.
Located in the North Carolina High Country, Sugar Mountain Resort is a popular destination for winter sports, offering a variety of runs for all skill levels, as well as snowboarding, ice skating, and tubing.
