KURE BEACH, N.C. — You're used to finding shells along the North Carolina coast...but not bomb shells.
A couple found the Civil War-era artillery shell during a stroll along Kure Beach this week.
They posted a picture of it on Facebook, then called police after getting comments about what it was.

The bomb squad checked it out, and said it was still a live round.
So police took it apart and discharged it.
The bomb squad brought the pieces back to the couple, who plan to put it back together and donate it to Fort Fisher.
