NC A&T alum to appear in 'The Color Purple'

Former Mister NC A&T and Mister HBCU Reginald Johnson will appear in the final scene of the movie that opens in theatres on Christmas Day.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina A&T alumnus, former Mister NC A&T and Mister HBCU, Reginald Johnson (Class of 2013) has a featured role in what may well be the biggest movie release of the year: "The Color Purple," a star-studded musical reimagination of the classic film by the same name from 1985.

Johnson shines as the principal dancer in the final scene of the film, which is set to a reprise of the song, "The Color of Purple," performed by award-winning singer and actress, and High Point native, Fantasia, who plays the main character, Celie.

"The movie was a very spiritual environment," Johnson shared. "Fantasia is a huge inspiration for me, especially from her time on American Idol to all the work she is doing now. Growing up in North Carolina, she's just an inspiration."

This is not Johnson's first experience with The Color Purple. He also acted and danced in a stage version while attending NC A&T. In the 10 years, since his graduation, he's been busy as a professional actor and dancer.

The movie premieres everywhere on Christmas Day.
