LIST | Juneteenth events across the Triad and surrounding areas

Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. after the Civil War. It has been celebrated by African Americans since the late 1800s.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Juneteenth celebrations are underway in the Triad!

People far and wide will take a moment to commemorate what some call "Freedom Day." While some may see it as a second Independence Day, others may see it as a holiday to remember when slavery finally ended in the 1800s after the Civil War.

According to the National Park Service, Juneteenth (June 19) is one of the oldest known commemorations related to the abolition of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth National Independence Day was signed into law as a national holiday on June 17, 2021.

However you view it, thousands across the Triad will celebrate the federal holiday through multi-day festivals, parades, parties, and events.
