GREENSBORO, N.C. — June is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Pride month, which honors the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.
Post World War II, most gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people were denied basic civil rights.
This prompted the gay rights movement to take a turn, leading to a series of riots called the 1969 Stonewall Uprising.
Every June, pride events are held to shine light on the impact that the LGBTQ community has had on the world.
Here are a few events happening in the area to celebrate Pride Month.
