GREENSBORO, N.C. — Barry continues to weaken. Midday Saturday, it became the first hurricane of this hurricane season before making landfall. The storm is moving across Louisiana, and it will continue to move slowly north for several days. It is going to bring an enormous amount of rain to the Gulf Coast and Lower Mississippi Valley this week. Here in North Carolina, we're not expecting much from Barry right now.
As of Midday Sunday the storm is located 50 miles to the southeast of Shreveport, Louisiana. Winds have decreased to 40 mph with higher gusts. Barry is expected to weaken to a tropical depression later today.
LATEST TRACK:
The main threats from Barry will be drenching, flooding rains to Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi, and eventually Arkansas and Missouri this week. Some areas could receive upwards of 10 to 15 inches of rain.
IMPACTS TO NC?
As of right now, it doesn't look likely that any significant rain from Barry will head toward North Carolina.
It is possible that we could get some of the moisture, but not likely until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
