GREENSBORO, N.C. --- We're in for an unsettled period of weather today into Friday. Clouds and rain are moving into the Carolinas Wednesday thanks to a disturbance. Rain amounts today should be light. Highs will make it into the 50s. Rain chances will continue tonight.
A warm front will lift north of us on Thursday morning. This will warm us a bit, but also bring more showers. After the initial round of widespread rain tomorrow morning, we could see a lull in activity during the midday hours. As we head through the afternoon and early evening timeframe a line of showers and storms will move in. That second round of rain will be associated with a cold front.
Drier and cooler air will rush in behind the front. Blue skies will return Friday, but so will high winds. A north wind of 20-30 mph is likely with higher wind gusts possible.
The winds will stay high most of the day Friday. By Saturday, winds will fall down to the 10-20 mph range for most areas.
