Greensboro Grasshoppers Switching Affiliation From Marlins to Pirates

The Hoppers' new Major League contract with Pittsburgh ends a 16-year run with Miami.

GREENSBORO (WFMY) — The Greensboro Grasshoppers announced Friday a new affiliation contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, ending a 16-year run with the Miami Marlins.

The two-year contract runs through the 2020 season.

“We are proud to partner with an organization that has a long history of outstanding achievements," said team president and GM Donald Moore."Our players will represent Pittsburgh and Greensboro very well on and off the field."

This is the Hoppers' eighth Major League affiliation in club history. In addition to the Marlins, previous teams include the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals.

The Hoppers open the 2019 season on April 4.
