50 Years of Racing: Richard Childress Racing Unveils Gold Cars For the Daytona 500

The golden anniversary will be celebrated year-long throughout the upcoming 2019 season with a special 50th Anniversary logo.

WELCOME, N.C. (WFMY) – It was a full house at the Richard Childress Racing event center with the race team’s entire staff and a few special guests for a private kick-off to its 50th anniversary celebration.

The golden anniversary will be celebrated year-long throughout the upcoming 2019 season with a special 50th Anniversary logo.

It all began today with the unveiling of the logo and a presentation of a nostalgic video looking back at everything the team has accomplished.

“I’ve just been along for the ride,” said Richard Childress, Founder and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “There’s a lot of people that have kept RCR together for 50 years.”

Torrey Galida, RCR President, announced the lineup of returning corporate partnerships including Caterpillar, Inc, Bass Pro Shops, Liberty Mutual, VF Corp's Red Kap brand and, new this year, Cessna.

Also unveiled, a pair of gold Daytona 500 entries for its two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams featuring defending champion Austin Dillon and Daniel Hemric.

Dillon will drive a gold No. 3 Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 while Daniel Hemric will make his career-first Daytona 500 start in a gold No. 8 Bass Pro Shops/Caterpillar Camaro ZL1.

Childress said it was the right time to bring back the No. 8, which was last driven by Ty Dillon.

“This was a great time to bring it back, a different driver, with a different car, different number and Caterpillar still sponsoring it,” Childress said.

In addition, Dillon will drive a gold No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Camaro ZL1 in the Advance Auto Parts Clash in Daytona.

Austin Dillon’s Clash entry recalls the gold Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet that Dale Earnhardt drove in the 1998 Winston All-Star race.

The 50th anniversary hopes to bring changes in RCR’s digital and social media branding, with a focus on celebrating the organization's past, present and future.

Richard Childress and RCR employees gave a toast, with a glass of Childress Vineyards Victory Cuvee nonetheless, for the organization’s legacy and history.

Childress said the next milestone to reach will be winning the 2019 Championship starting with the Daytona 500.
