March For Our Lives Rallies in the Triad

Live feed of March For Our Lives rallies happening in Winston-Salem and Greensboro.

Hundreds braved the cold to protest gun violence in Winston-Salem and Greensboro.

"Just because the second amendment says the right to bear arms, does not mean military grade weapons should be available to anyone period," said one marcher during a speech.

They made their voices heard.

"These kids in these shootings were just like us. They got up in the morning, ate breakfast, drove to school -- and then they died there," said Annika Preheim, a Senior at Northern Guilford.

The March -- went from Governmental Plaza to LeBauer park.

Many people we spoke with usually don't get political -- but they're out here, because they don't believe this is about politics at all.

"This is way more than politics. Like my shirt says, we're marching for our lives. This isn't about Government, or government control. This is the safety of our children and of our friends and family," said Marley Smith, a Senior at Northern Guilford.

These feelings were also felt in Winston-Salem where there was a march this afternoon.

Some Triad kids felt so compelled, they made their way to Washington to hear first-hand all about their cause.

"We just got to hear everyone from Parkland talk, and from Chicago, and Baltimore, and a lot of kids of varying ages that were affected by gun violence," said Catherine Vaughan, who went to Washington D.C.

Catherine Vaughan is the daughter of Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, and she joined up with several of her friends to go to Washington.

They say, it was an experience they will never forget, because this is the start of something much bigger.

"We're really looking forward to the future. Our generation is going to bring upon so many changes, so at the end of the day it was just a really moving and empowering situation for all of us," said Charlotte Carr, who went to Washington D.C.

The rallies come after 17 people died when a gunman entered a high school in Parkland, Florida.
