Two Guns Taken From Students at Providence Grove High School in Randolph Co.

The first gun was taken by an administrator who received a tip about it Thursday morning. In the afternoon, while deputies were investigating that incident, they learned of another gun on campus. A student had a gun in their car.

RANDOLPH COUNTY, NC - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office confirms two separate students brought guns to Providence Grove High School on Thursday.

The first gun was taken by school administration after they got a tip early in the morning. The student arrived on campus in a school bus, and administrators were there waiting for him. They confiscated the gun and law enforcement took the student into custody.

In the afternoon, while deputies were investigating the first incident, they learned of another gun on campus. A student had a gun in their car. The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds.

Parents of students at Providence Grove received a message from the school:

Good morning, parents, this is Principal Brad Walston. I am calling to make you aware of a safety concern that was addressed this morning on the campus of Providence Grove High School prior to the start of the school day. Early this morning, the school’s administration received a tip of the possibility of a firearm being brought to campus this morning by a student. Upon receipt of this tip, the school’s administration immediately investigated the situation upon the student’s arrival on campus. This investigation led to the confiscation of the firearm by the school’s administration. Law enforcement also has been working with the school’s administration on this situation. Please know that the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority at all times. Thank you and have a good day.

Randolph County deputies are still investigating. Thursday afternoon, the sheriff's office posted an update on social media:
