REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Rockingham County officials responded to a small plane crash in a lake Tuesday afternoon.
Rockingham County 911 said the call came for a small personal plane in the water off Clark Lake Road.
EMS Director Rodney Cates said no one was hurt, and the pilot could get out of the plane and the lake on their own.

However, a man saw what happened and jumped into action to help save the pilot.
"I was able to get him into the canoe and paddle him back to shore. I asked him if he was okay, and he said he was okay. I would say he was really lucky, really lucky. Because when he doesn't head first into the lake, he could have gotten knocked out," Joe Rauch shared.
Rauch said that it was normal to hear planes coming out of the runway but noticed something was different with this plane because it was flying too low. He mentioned that if it didn't get more power, it would crash.
"And sure enough, he came down the center of the lake, approached the power lines, and made a right-hand turn, a severe right-hand turn, and went right down into the lake. We jumped to action," he explained.
