Randolph Co. Woman in Critical Condition After Crash

Troopers say she was not wearing her seat belt, which impacted her injuries significantly.

ASHEBORO, N.C. -- A Sophia woman is in critical condition after a single vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers say the crash happened on Old County Farm Road in Randolph County.

They say Cynthia Kulan Hopkins,45, was driving north in an SUV. She traveled off the roadway to the right, struck a ditch, and a ditch culvert. Troopers say the vehicle overturned, ejected Hopkins, and came to a rest on the shoulder.

Hopkins was transported to Moses Cone Hospital for life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say 53-year-old Robert Hopkins, a passenger in the SUV, was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say they don't yet know what caused Ms. Hopkins to veer out of her lane. They say she was not wearing a seatbelt, which significantly affected her injuries.
