NC Girl Dies After Mom Electrocuted In Motel Room

BATTLEBORO, N.C. (WNCN) - A 9-year-old girl has died following an incident where her mother was electrocuted at a Nash County motel on Monday, police confirmed.

The child died at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville on Monday, Rocky Mount police said.

Kendra Pittman, 31, was electrocuted at the in a room at the Economy Inn and Suites, located at 7522 Old Battleboro Rd. in the Gold Rock community of Nash County, officials confirmed to CBS 17.

Officials believe the air conditioner may have caused the electrocution.

The 9-year-old child was transported to the hospital where she later died.

A 10-year-old who was in the room at the time of the incident said the AC unit began to smoke. The 31-year-old went to open the door to let the smoke out, she fell unconscious, officials said.

Rocky Mount police said Pittman and her children were living at the motel.

"She touched the door handle and the floor was wet and she lost her life," said the victim's cousin, Tony Williams.
