Man's Body Inside Pickup Truck Pulled From Surry County Pond

A family member saw tire marks off Fireside Lane, through the snow, and into the pond.

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- Surry County Sheriff's Deputies say foul play is not involved in the death of a man whose body was found in a pond. They also do not believe the death is weather-related.

The man's body and pickup truck were pulled from a pond in the White Plains community of Surry County on Tuesday evening.

Surry County Emergency Officials say the man was reported missing after he did not show up for work.

Emergency Services Director John Shelton says a family member reported seeing tire marks off Fireside Lane, through the snow, and into the pond around 1:30 p.m.

Divers were called in to search the pond and found the man inside the truck. The victim was pulled from the water around 5:30 p.m.

An autopsy scheduled for Wednesday at Baptist Medical Center has been pushed back to Thursday.

Shelton says it's unclear what caused the truck to go into the pond.

They are not identifying the victim at this time.

The Surry County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation.
