Steps to End Suicide: Triad Out of the Darkness Walk

Take a step to end suicide by participating in the Out of the Darkness Walk this weekend.

KERNERSVILLE, NC -- Take a step to take a stand against a national epidemic. By the end of the day you read this article, 120 people will have committed suicide.

The sad statistic is from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the beneficiary of funding from more than 400 nationwide Out of the Darkness walks this September (National Suicide Prevention Month).

One of those walks is in Kernersville this weekend. Co-hosts Carolyn Hughes and Ashleigh Brill joined the Good Morning Show Friday. Brill's best friend K.J. died by suicide last July. Hughes' beloved son, Michael, took his life in graduate school in 2013. Their mission in putting on the walk is to raise awareness about mental health and how to recognize the not-so-obvious signs of someone who is suffering.

All are welcome at the Out of the Darkness walk this weekend. Registration is free, and donations are encouraged.
