Flash Floods Cause Evacuations in Henry County

Major roads and intersections were closed due to high waters making it difficult for rescuers.

BASSETT, Va. – Just after midnight, several calls came in about flooding in southern Virginia.

One of the hardest hit was Blackberry Park Circle where many were evacuated by boat. Major roads and intersections were closed due to high waters making it difficult for rescuers.

Bassett Fire Department and other local volunteers went door to door evacuating many including one disabled person. Thankfully no injuries were reported. Multiple vehicles were damaged as drivers attempted to cross high waters. Virginia DOT and Public Safety continue to survey the damage.
