'Are you moving?' I say, 'No sir.' This is home.': Disaster Doesn't Deter NC Family

This isn't the first time this road or the families that call it home have been hit hard by a disaster.

PRINCETON, N.C. (WFMY) -- House after house along Lassister Road in Princeton means family close by, ready to rally in times of disaster.

In fact, generations of Lassisters fill Lassister Road.

This isn’t the first time this road or the families that call it home have been hit hard by a disaster.

“This is the only way in and out."

Which means the Lassisters’ homes are vulnerable to flooding, just like two years ago with Hurricane Matthew.

"That was the first thing that popped into my mind. We were going to get more water back in the house, and we were going to have to rebuild again."

But the Lassisters’ said they didn’t get hit as hard a Matthew.

"You try to prepare for the worst and hope for the best."

Even so, the intense rain pounded Princeton last week as Florence moved in across the state.

"The trees were blowing. The wind was raining like bop!"

In the future, Lassiter Road could get hit again with flooding but for the family, they said, “We’ll be ready for whatever comes.”

“A lot of people ask me, 'Are you moving?' I say, 'No sir.' This is home."

So of the family members did have their crops ruined by high water levels, but they said because of the support of their neighbors, they’ll make it through.
