RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. — A 15-year-old boy drowned in a lake at a camp in Rutherfordton on Sunday, June 9, according to a fire marshal.

Emergency crews said they responded to a possible drowning at Camp Bud Schiele on Boy Scout Road. When they arrived, they worked to recover the teenager with the help of a dive team.

Investigators said a group of ROTC cadets participated in a swimming exercise when the 15-year-old went into the water and was not seen again. A dive team recovered the body of the missing swimmer as deputies continued with an investigation.

No foul play is suspected,  according to detectives.

The incident appears to be a tragic accident.
