RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. -- A teen has been charged in connection with making threats to harm students at both Wheatmore High and Trinity High Schools.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said they received a tip on February 28, from a School Resource Officer at Wheatmore High. The SRO said the principal shared the concern about a possible threat against students at both high schools. The Sheriff's Office says 17-year-old Wheatmore student Jacob Thomas Norris was removed from school that day and placed in a secure facility.
The Sheriff’s Office obtained a True Bill of Indictment from the Randolph County Grand Jury on Monday. As a result, Norris has been charged with Solicitation to Commit Murder.
The Sheriff’s Department says there was evidence Norris had a violent plan, including paper writings, online searches and statements from those close to him. They would not release information about any weapons Norris may or may not have had in his possession.
“We’re all extremely satisfied that everything worked together. That’s the Sheriff’s Office, the schools, the district attorney’s office, everybody involved with the situation working hand-in-hand is how this happened so quickly,” said Capt. Bernie Maness with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.
Norris was placed in the Randolph County Jail on a $350,000 secured bond.
