Long before any of our current staffers arrived, WFMY News 2 was all about the community in which we serve. Still today, it’s our mission to continue that commitment.
But little did we know a week ago our entire community would be challenged to care for victims of twisted destruction. The tornado wasted homes and property.
It also, however, is building something special in both those responding and those in need. We gathered some of those thoughts in this editorial.

"You recall the story from school…
“it was the best of times… it was the worst of times.”
Later that same story tells of “hope” and “despair”.
We’ve lived that this week in Greensboro and Rockingham County.
We get the worst – tornadoes and heartache.
What’s “best” about any of that?
‘YOU’… are the answer… pulling together with and for our neighbors in need like never before.
We live in a great place… but we know matters of race, job loss, and food disparity have challenged us.
This week… we are all one. Strong. Together.
All of us.. Helping those of us… in need.
We’d never wish for another tornado… and months of rebuilding is ahead.
But this act of God has caused us to love and care for each other.
And ‘that’ is the best thing… in the worst time… that could ever happen."
